Friday nights in the 1990s for families often involved watching the television show Full House. Uncle Jesse moved into the Tanner home to help his brother-in-law raise three precious girls after the loss of their mother. Jesse and Danny (the girl's father) were joined by Danny's best friend, Joey, a professional comedian. The three men maintained a household full of love, and the girls learned a lot of life lessons with the support of their extended family. While most Full House fans are familiar with the Golden Retriever who was the chief Tanner family pet, Comet, little Michelle attempted to bring another four-legged friend into their home. During Comet's birthday party, when all the neighborhood pups are invited to the Tanner home to celebrate, Michelle spies a sweet Jack Russell Terrier named Sparky. Sparky belongs to one of the Tanner's neighbors, Teddy. Michelle wants to keep Sparky for her own because Comet has grown "too big for her." Michelle even tries to pass Sparky off as a rabbit. She puts bunny ears on him and refers to the pup as "Peanut." Eventually, D.J. finds Sparky and persuades Michelle to return the puppy to Teddy and his family.

It should also be noted that Sparky eventually finds a girlfriend in Kimmy's dog, Coco. However, Teddy's family eventually leaves the neighborhood to move to Texas, and it is assumed that Sparky went with them.

The Sparky featured on Full House was meant to teach a lesson. When D.J. found that Michelle had hijacked the neighbor's dog for her own, not only did she have to explain why keeping Sparky was wrong, but she also had to explain to Michelle that while Comet did grow quickly, and he might seem "too big" at the moment, Michelle would also grow. Eventually, Comet would not seem so big to her.

Another Sparky is also used to teach children. Sparky the Fire Dog is a cartoon Dalmatian used to teach fire prevention and what to do should a fire take place. Sparky the Fire Dog is the mascot of the National Fire Protection Association. His history reaches back into the 1950s, when a child could send in twenty-five cents to the NFPA and become a member of Sparky's club. In the 1960s, Sparky was bestowed with a song, and many books were written utilizing Sparky. His objective was and is always to promote fire safety. Sparky has evolved as the times have changed. In the 1970s, the dog continued his campaign, walking upright and speaking to kids about fire safety. At one point - much like Superman - Sparky utilized a phone booth to change into his costume. Today, Sparky can play the guitar and sing. He does so in many videos that are distributed throughout the country.

What type of dog best represents the Full House television show? Well, the dog belonging to the Tanner family, Comet, was a Golden Retriever.

There is a neat story about how Comet came to be with the Tanners. Danny Tanner is infamous for detesting anything he considers to be dirty or have germs. Unfortunately, dogs fall into the category of having the potential to make a mess. So, for a very long time, the Tanners did not have a dog. Comet is the son of Minnie, a neighbor's dog. Minnie somehow ends up on the Tanner property just as her pups are about to be born, and she ends up having Comet on Uncle Jesse's bed! After some time, the neighbor realizes that his pregnant dog is missing, and he inquires around the neighborhood. He finds Minnie at the Tanners, and offers them a pup for taking such good care of his dog. Joey convinces Danny that it will be okay, and so Comet comes to be with the Tanners. A few seasons later, another dog makes a brief appearance on the show. Michelle finds a Jack Russell Terrier she calls Sparky. Sparky does not stay with the Tanners for very long, however. He belongs to another family in the neighborhood. A Golden Retriever or Jack Russell both would suit a Full House name, as would a sprightly dog.
