Animals are quite scarce in the Halo franchise, seeing how most of the games take place in outer space or on otherworldly (sometimes artificial) planets. That being said, there is a real world dog, who made a big splash in Australia, that just so happens to share the same name as Master Chief himself; John the Cavoodle from the popular Australian comedy drama show, Please Like Me. The show follows the day to day trials and tribulations of Josh, a young Australian man who's just recently come out and is having trouble finding his way in the world. One of the characters that offers Josh the most support and love is his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/ Poodle mix named John. Unlike the heroic war veteran of the Halo series, John the Cavoodle is very lethargic and inactive. However, when Josh needs some cheering up, John will spring into action and allow Josh to dress him up in funny outfits.

The Halo franchise is host to a menagerie of extraterrestrial species, with the Morolaath species of reptillian bipeds even being referred to as blind wolves. The M12 Light Reconnaissance Vehicle, better known as the Warthog, is perhaps the most popular vehicle in the Halo franchise to be named after an animal; so much so that many fans created scale, fully operable replicas in real life that have allowed them to tear up terrain like just like the Chief.
