Iran Dog Names

Asal can be seen running at full speed at a dog park in St. John’s. What is not obvious is that several years ago the pup was living in a shelter in Iran, where she could be seen in a video acting listless and submissive. It is hard to believe it is the same dog; Azal can be bossy and will chase larger dogs to claim their territory. Her owner, Amitis Partovi, notes that Asal is spunky with a lot of attitude. Partovi, who was born in Iran but grew up in Canada, began volunteering to save dogs from Iran. In the case of Asal, the pup came from Omid Animal Rescue and Adoption, which is based out of Isfahan. The smallish canine, who Partovi believes may be a mix of Russian Spitz and those indigenous to Iran, spent time at the shelter after living in a puppy mill, before being noticed by Partovi who decided to adopt her. According to Partovi, strays have many difficulties in Iran. It can be trendy in the country for a family to get a dog to show social status. Once they realize the amount of responsibility is necessary to take care of a dog, they feel overwhelmed and will sometimes put the dog out on the street. Strays may get hit by cars or abused by humans. They are often malnourished. After bringing home Asal, Partovi wanted to help save other dogs.

Omid Animal Rescue and Adoption consists of a small group of volunteers in Iran, as well as in other countries to include Germany and Canada. The shelter, which is located in Isfahan, provides the dogs with food and medical care. The organization seeks to find travelers that will take a dog with them when they leave the country, so that the dog can make its way to their new owners. In addition, animal foster groups help find temporary homes for the dogs who leave Iran, where they can stay until they are adopted. Before leaving the shelter in Iran, the dogs get rabies shots, other vaccines and deworming medication. The pups are also spayed or neutered. Medical records are organized and exit authorizations are prepared for international travel for the pups. Those planning to adopt the dogs will cover the cost of their transportation. The group seeks those looking to adopt, willing to make donations or connect the organization to foster groups.
