Jindo Dog Names

Kimchi is a side dish that is made from fermented vegetables and often includes salted seafood. It has been considered a staple in Korean cuisine for thousands of years, and there are hundreds of varieties of Kimchi available. This makes it an excellent name for a Jindo breed dog from Korea, and apparently the perfect name for an elderly, blind King Charles Cavalier Spaniel mix dog in the Phillipenes as well. The ten to twelve-year-old dog was originally found wandering the streets in 2012 during a typhoon in Alabang, near the coast of the Philippines. His near-blindness made it difficult to survive on the street and when he was found he was thin, mangy, and extremely weak. Fortunately, he was rescued by a shelter named Compassion and Responsibility for Animals, is most often just referred to as CARA, and he regained both his health and his strength. When Eric and Thea brought their Golden Retriever Ginger to the shelter to help pick out a new family member, she seemed to be having none of it, snarling and snapping at most any dog that got too close or became too friendly. 

The couple was about to give up on their search, when the spaniel mix, later to be dubbed Kimchi, made his way to them and put his paws on them. To their surprise, Ginger took to the chubby little dog almost immediately, so Eric and Thea brought him home. The two became fast friends right away and started spending most of their time together, and their pet parents took to tethering Kimchi to Ginger to keep him from wandering off and getting himself in trouble. It wasn’t long before Ginger began leading Kimchi places, effectively working as a guide dog for her sightless friend, without any previous training. Kimchi remains untethered when at home; the surroundings are familiar, and he has very little trouble getting around, although he does get smacked by the cats when he trips over them on occasion. When the dogs go out, however, they are constantly connected, and this has given Kimchi much greater freedom and allows Ginger to be in her favorite place, right next to Kimchi. Their bond has not only enriched their own lives, but it has also enriched the lives of many others. Ginger and Kimchi have now become an official therapy dog team, and they provide support to stressed-out students and corporate employees, as well as comfort and joy to patients at hospitals, special needs centers, and nursing homes throughout the Philipines.
