Lazy Dog Names

In 1943,  Tex Avery created the character of Droopy the Dog. The short cartoons were produced by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio. Droopy is known for his lazy attitude. The pooch moves very slow and speaks in a dull monotone that almost puts the audience to sleep. However, despite his laidback attitude and delayed movements he is a shrewd dog that is more than capable of outwitting enemies. It takes a lot to get Droopy upset or mad but when a bad guy riles him up it's time to watch out because he turns into a rough and tumble rebel rouser who is more than capable of holding his own in a struggle. 

The character of Droopy made his appearance in the cartoon, "Dumb-Hounded." During the early days, the figure was often called "Happy Hound."  However, as the series started to evolve, the audience became familiar with the dog as "Droopy." The Droopy series of cartoons ran from 1943 until 1958. It was discontinued when MGM closed its cartoon department. However, as new productions have emerged on screen, the character of Droopy has taken center stage. He has appeared on movies and televisions series such as "Tom and Jerry." 

In the famous cartoon film Northwest Hounded Police, Droopy was given the last name of "McPoodle." It was at that time that the audience came to see Droopy as a Basset Hound. His monotone voice was modeled after the radio comedy character Wallace Wimple. 

The Droopy character had great strength despite his unassuming personality. His power would often emerge when the dog was upset. His famous line was always, "You know what? That makes me mad".  After he spews the line, he usually fights with the character who is upsetting him.

In most of the cartoon's, Droopy's superior intelligence is usually pitted against a villain. Of course, Droopy ends up outthinking the villain to save the day. 

Droopy is still often the main character in a variety of cartoons, and he has endeared himself to generations of audiences. A cartoon book series has also been released that showcases Droopy as the main character and has won fans around the world. 

Undoubtedly, Droopy's lazy but intelligent character is what has made him a memorable cartoon character. The dog's versatility has won him a starring role in many cartoons, and he continues to be a character that fans never grow tired of seeing and experiencing.
