Magic Kingdom Inspired Dog Names

Dog's named in the Magic Kingdom theme are plentiful in today's world.  Many children choose to name their new puppies or adopted dogs after their favorite Disney characters, such as Elsa or Moana, Mickey or Woody.  The rise of Magic Kingdom related names in popular culture runs parallel with the hit feature animations and live-action films put out by Disney Entertainment over the years.  Several names are direct references to the pop culture of their time and are classic Disney names.  One such dog name is Peg.

Peg is a streetwise Pekingese in Lady and the Tramp who makes her first appearance when the Tramp rescues her and Bull, an English Bulldog, from the dog catcher.  Peg's name throws a bone to the actress and singer who portrayed Peg in the animated feature, Peggy Lee.  Peg's features and attitude draws its inspiration from Peggy Lee, who was an American Jazz and popular music singer and songwriter with a six-decade career.  Disney productions have a long history of incorporating pop culture icons in its films, such as Peggy Lee as a jazzy Pekingese or Billy Joel as a New York City street-smart rascal Jack Russell Terrier in Oliver and Company.  

Disney and the Magic Kingdom is also well known for its live-action films that feature and star cats and dogs.  One of the more well known and much-loved live-action films is Homeward Bound.  Homeward Bound features a trio of pets; Chance, the unruly and young American Bulldog, Shadow, the older and wiser Golden Retriever, and Sassy, the Himalayan Cat.  The three pets get separated from their owners and make the long trek across America.  During this trek, Chance's immaturity often gets the group into trouble, but the young American Bulldog embarks on the road to self-discovery and realizes at the end of the film when he is reunited with his family, that he loves his family deeply as well as his compatriots.

Many other Magic Kingdom dogs of note exist with this theme as well.  Pluto may be one of the most recognized dogs in all of Disney.  His name is in honor of the planet Pluto that was discovered the same year Pluto the dog was created by Walt Disney, showing the genius vision of Walt Disney was to create something familiar, fun, and relevant.  Today, these pop culture themes continue to mark Magic Kingdom films, stories, and other entertainment.
