What would you do if you discovered that your dog had a sense of independence? This is something that Jeff Young had to face when he discovered that his beloved black Labrador Retriever, Eclipse, enjoys using the Seattle public transport system by herself. One time, they had just gotten out of the dog park downtown, something they do several times per week, when Jeff decided to light up a cigarette. Rather than keep waiting, Eclipse simply walked off and got on the bus. A dumbfounded Jeff worried at first, but soon realized that this was just something Eclipse liked to do. And everyone in the city is nice to her, so it's not really so bad.

The process goes like this: Eclipse has a bus pass attached to her collar, which gets registered when she boards. From there, she hits up a local pet shop and picks out chew toys. Sometimes she just goes for a walk, or hits up the park some more, to hang out with other dogs. Then she simply boards the bus again and heads back home to Jeff.

And she does this every week. So people who actively use bus transportation in Seattle already know her. She actually makes a habit of making friends during the bus ride, and people don't seem to mind at all! She's so famous in the city, that newcomers who have heard the story will often board the bus in the hopes of running into Eclipse. She's also been featured in local news appearances, and a Metro commercial, showcasing just how easy using the city's transport system really is. The commercial itself is hilarious, with Eclipse going to the movies, getting a bite of food at a local restaurant, selecting chew toys at the pet shop, and happily hanging out with fellow bus riders. She even got her own song for the commercial, detailing her adventures.

Yes, the face of Seattle's public transportation system is an adorable one indeed. And Jeff Young is sure to be a proud dog parent. So, if you ever make it to Seattle, be sure to look up at buses, or ride one to one of the many pubs and restaurants available.
