A female gray Pit Bull, known as Celine Dion, became well-known when found on I-94 in North Dakota. Bill Kramer, who owns a towing and hauling business, was heading west around mile marker 95 when he noticed a vehicle that appeared to be spilling garbage. He then realized that a dog was on the dotted line of the middle of the interstate. Kramer took action, placing his trailer slightly in the right lane with the idea of forcing cars to move over. He then went to rescue the dog, who was bleeding and scared; and appeared to have a broken leg.

Kramer crawled on his hands and knees to the dog, who would not move until his own dog came out of the truck. Celine Dion then followed them and Kramer was able to life her into the vehicle. Unsure of what to do, Kramer posted a message on Facebook, seeking help. His post generated hundreds of calls and messages, some from as far as Florida, California and Massachusetts, from folks willing to donate or send care packages. Others even offered to come pick her up and adopt her into their home. Donations covered the vet bills for Celine Dion (about $800-$900). Between one and two years of age, the pooch is in good shape considering her experience. A friend of Kramer’s is taking Celine Dion in. Kramer described her as a sweet dog who seemed to feel bad for getting blood on his truck.

The Fire Chief of Jamestown, Jim Reuther, picked up Chloe, an eight-week old Bloodhound, from Erin and Ryan Solberg, who own Cedar Ridge Hounds, where they raise pure-bred Bloodhounds. His intent: for Chloe to train to be a search-and-rescue dog. Reuther had seen what a Bloodhound with the right training can do at a search-and-rescue scene, which inspired him to become trained and train a dog, to do the same. Before moving forward, Reuther talked with his veterinarian to make sure that she was willing to provide medical attention at any time for his dog in case she sustained an injury at a search-and-rescue scene. Reuther and Chloe are undergoing training at no cost to the city of Jamestown or the Fire Department; he intends to handle all costs himself.
