Polish Dog Names

When Bert the Pomeranian was only five months old, he was abandoned to an animal shelter by his owner, a dog breeder because they said he was too big to sell. However, Bert was soon to find out that he was not only the perfect size but is also the perfect color and temperament to be a wonderful pet and mascot to his new owner Kathy Grayson. Kathy was in New York when she saw Bert on Petfinder in Tulsa, Arizona. Although his name was Jasper then, Kathy thought he looked more like a Bertram, so she renamed him, but everyone typically calls this little furball Bert. 

Nowadays, Bert is not just a well-loved pet, but he is also a social media star and a superstar employee at his owner’s art gallery, The Hole. People come from all over to see Bert, who often comes to work wearing a bowtie or another adorable outfit. In fact, many people bring their canine kids along to meet and play with Bert. He also has almost 250,000 followers on his Instagram page. Kathy had to make him his own Instagram page because he was taking over her art site on Instagram. 

Bert does not just go to work and go home every day though. Kathy takes him everywhere from art gallery openings in L.A. and Miami to art fairs in New York City and Seattle. He has even been to Washington D.C. and Canada visiting bars, restaurants, clubs, and even the opera.  But he is happiest when he is at the art gallery getting tons of attention and love from the patrons and his human. Five years later, Bert is still a hit on social media and still enjoys spending his days at the art gallery with Kathy. 

The Pomeranian was created in the 1800s in the historical region of Pomerania, which is now part of Poland. They were originally bred to be sheepdogs and were much larger back then. These were always kept by royalty, starting with Queen Charlotte and King George III but it was Queen Victoria who was a true Pomeranian lover as she had many over the years. In fact, her Pomeranians were the first to be shown in the dog shows, and they became very popular after that. Although the Pomeranians of the 1800s were larger and did more work than the modern little lapdog Pomeranians of today, they are still basically the same dogs with the same sweet temperament and loving cuddliness.
