Anubis

Anubis Cruger first debuted during Power Rangers: Space Patrol Delta (or S.P.D. for short). At the beginning of that show, Cruger held the position of Commander of the S.P.D's Earthbound Delta Base. There are many things that make Anubis Cruger standout, even amongst a cast of characters that include humans and various alien species; first and foremost, one of Cruger's most distinct characteristics is that he's a giant, talking dog! Well, that's not entirely true - Anubis Cruger may heavily resemble a Doberman or a German Pinscher, but things are actually more complex than they might initially seem.

Inline with Power Rangers: S.P.D's intergalactic setting, Anubis Cruger is actually an alien from the planet Sirius. While we never had the opportunity to visit Sirius, or even get a look at it for that matter, fans of Power Rangers: S.P.D. learned that the planet was full of dog-like humanoid creatures, such as Anubis Cruger. Sirius was unique, even among other alien planets, because it was the first world to have played host to the earliest incarnation of the S.P.D. While this fact made the planet historically significant to the Power Rangers, it also made it a target for the villanous Emperor Gruumm.

The main antagonist of Power Rangers: S.P.D, Emperor Gruumm set his sights on destroying Sirius in the hopes of crippling the Rangers or outright eliminating them as a threat to his plans. Unfortunately, Gruumm succeeded in the first part of his plan, as he was able to completely destroy Sirius and most of its inhabitants along with it. Cruger and a force comprised of his fellow Sirians tried to repel the attack, but Gruumm's forces were too great to overcome. In the end, Sirius was left a barren husk of a planet and Cruger, after recovering from injuries he sustained in battle, believed himself to be the only surviving member of his race.

Cruger would eventually make his way to Earth, where he would take up the reigns of Commander primarily. But when someone from Cruger's past reappeared in life later on in the series, Cruger was given a patrol morpher that allowed him to transform into the enigmatic Shadow Ranger. While in this form, Cruger has increased strength, speed, and durability as well as access to a slew of unique weapons. Chief among them is the Shadow Saber, a sword that allows Cruger to perform the Containment Strike attack to trap foes in a Containment Card.
