He's the best there is at what he does, but what he does isn't very nice. James Howlett, aka Logan but best known as The Wolverine, is not only one of Marvel Comic's most famous and popular superheroes, but he's also one of the most instantly recognizable characters in all of fiction. Created all the way back in the 1970's by comic book industry legends Roy Thomas, Len Wein, and John Romita, Sr. the Wolverine first appeared in issue #180 of the Incredible Hulk's comic series as an antagonistic character towards the Jade Giant. Since then, Wolverine's character has changed and morphed drastically over the years, becoming a major player in many superhero teams such as the X-Men and the Avengers.

Since there aren't really any particularly noteworthy canine characters in the Wolverine comics, we decided to take an alternative route and talk about both of Hugh Jackman's pet puppies. First up, we have Dali; Dali is an adorable French Bulldog that first came into Hugh Jackman's care some time during the year 2010. Dali was only two months old when Hugh Jackman was visiting New York with his wife and children. During their family trip to the Big Apple, Jackman as his clan decided to get a dog that could bond and grow with the family over the years.

Jackman his family visited a pet shop that's renowned for being a popular destination for many other famous actors (including the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Christina Ricci, and Reese Witherspoon) where they happened upon the young Dali. Jackman and his family immediately fell head over heels for the young puppy and decided to adopt the French Bulldog into their family right then and there. When it came time to officially name the dog, Jackman didn't have a hard time thinking up the perfect name to give to his new family member; Jackman named the French Bulldog Dali after the famous Surrealist/Dada painter Salvador Dali. The Jackman family then took the young puppy home who has since become a cherished part of Hugh Jackman's family, as the A-List actor has often been seen taking Dali out for walks as well as travelling the world with the French Bulldog and even, on occasion, bringing the pup on set with him when filming a project.

Hugh Jackman's also has been seen caring for another dog as of 2014; this puppy's name is Allegra and their pedigree is quite interesting and diverse. Allegra is a Poodle-Terrier mix that's almost just as small and similar in stature to Dali, making them a complementary match in many ways. Allegra was gifted to Hugh Jackman and his family during the 2014 Christmas season. Jackman's family immediately took a liking to Allegra, whose name is based on a musical term that means "happy" or "joyful," and Dali has even come to bond with Allegra over the years as well.

Lastly, we'd like to mention the dog named Wolverine from an Elseworld's story style Deadpool comic; as one might expect, this dog has many abilities that are similar to Wolverine's and even has hair and claws that are exactly the same as Weapon X's.

Wolverine Inspired Dog Name Considerations

Simply put, the Wolverine is one of the most iconic characters in fiction; everything from his over the top "V-shaped" haircut, to the "snikt!" sound his Adamantium claws make whenever he brandishes them, to either of his iconic X-Men costumes (with his yellow and blue costume being referred to as his Classic" or "Astonishing" costume while his yellow and brown one is generally referred to simply as his "Brown"costume) so much about Weapon X stands out. So if you were to name your dog Logan, Wolvie, Weapon X, or Hugh, we're positive many people would likely pick up on the reference to one of the most popular superheroes of all time.

Conversely, if the popularity angle doesn't serve as incentive enough to name your dog after the Wolverine, consider this; of all the other X-Men that have been introduced over the years (barring the likes of Beast, Wolfsbane, Sabertooth, X-23 and Daken,) no other characters are as in touch with their wild side as the Wolverine is. Logan has expressed, in multiple ways and on multiple occasions, that he feels that he's more animal than man in the end. As such, Logan has a great respect for animals, including dogs and all other sorts of canine creatures. So consider naming your pet after Logan due to his environmental conscientiousness.
