To the East of Prospect is Cheshire, where there is a pup-tastic walking trail known as Farmington Canal Trail in Farmington Canal State Park. This trail follows a disused rail line fot 84 miles, from New Haven, Connecticut to Northampton, Massachusetts. This section takes you along Willow Brook through a mostly wooded area and is a perfect nature escape from suburbia. Bring your water and clean up bags out here. To refuel after your big walk, head to Cheshire Coffee, where you can sip your hot cuppa outside in the sunshine with your pooch by your side. The park is part of the Canal-Lock 12 Historical District and has a two-mile paved walking trail dotted with historical information along the way. There is plenty of shade here, as well as water and some clean up bags provided. Roaring Brook Park is nearby and has another great walking trail to explore. Take a wander through the woods with your pup and marvel at the scenery – the trees, the seasonal waterfall and the historical monuments that are still standing. You will need to keep your dog on the lead in these areas.

dog will love an off-lead play at the Cheshire Dog Park in neighboring Cheshire.
Set on two acres of grass with two separate fenced areas to keep pups safe, this
is an active dog’s dream outing. There are clean up bags and water available on
site, and seating for you to relax on while your pup plays. Agility equipment has
also been installed at this park, making for extra fun and skill-testing. It is
easily accessible and there is ample parking close by. Back on the lead, take a
walk together down to Tenmile River and see if you can spot some of the local
wildlife.

To the West of Prospect is Naugatuck, where you will find a poocherific dog park in Andrew Mountain Park. The Naugatuck Dog Park covers three acres, where your dog is free to roam, frolic and play off-leash in one of the two fenced areas. This neighbourhood joins the top of the Naugatuck State Forest, where there are numerous walking trails to explore.
