Folly City Beaches

The public beaches located in the city of Folly Beach, near Charleston, are a great way to spend a summer afternoon, taste some of the most delicious local cuisines, or play a game of fetch with your four-legged companion.

The beaches at Folly Beach offer residents and visitors a pawfect retreat on charming Folly Island, no matter the season. From kayaking around Folly Beach and James Island, to paddle boarding, fishing, swimming, surfing or picnicking at individual pavilions on-site, Folly Beach offers an unlimited source of the sun, adventure and good times. And with an interesting history of shipwrecks and pirates, you and your pup can let your imagine run wild on this island!

Dogs are allowed on the beaches any time from October 1 to April 30, although they do need to be on a leash, regardless of the time of year. From May 1st to September 30, dogs are not allowed on the beach from 10 AM to 6 PM, so check them out in early morning or later evening. The crowded beaches and scorching sun may hurt your dog, so make the most of your time together in the off-season. Note that doggoes are also not allowed on the pier, so stick to the sand and waves!

With 49 access points to the beaches, many with paid parking areas, there's lots of ways to get to the sun and fun! Access can be found along both East and West Ashley Avenue, and along East Arctic Avenue between 12th Street East and 3rd Street West. Check out the website for all the parking and access areas.

Whether it’s running, walking, playing or swimming, there are plenty of fun activities for your pup to enjoy while on the beach. Some of the facilities at different areas of the beach include restrooms, showers, parking, picnic tables, grills, and shelters, as well as restaurants and shops located nearby. 

Be sure to bring all essentials for a furbulous day the beach, including water to share with your thirsty pup. Clean-up bags are a must to help keep these pawrific beaches looking their best!
