Ocean Springs Beach

Ocean Springs is a true Southern belle and art-lovers retreat, with a spirit of joie de vivre emulating from its history of French settlers. Its also a pet-friendly setting where dogs can access its namesake beach, a sandy, grassy stretch of coastline where the mighty Mississippi gulf water, laps gently on the shore.

Your beautiful Basenji or cute, little Pug must be leashed, but there appear to be no time limits as to when you and your pet-pal can walk or swim. The whimsical smalltown vibe is welcoming with charming cottages, restaurants, and galleries featuring neighborhood potters and painters. There is even a rumor that Elvis Presley used to frequent this thriving metropolis adding, to its esoteric, emotive, atmosphere.

The king of rock n roll was known to keep Poodles and Great Pyrenees, so they might have been seen walking along this picturesque beach, where today there are wagging tails as locals and vacationers embrace the dog-friendly feeling.

Litter bags are available at the front beach for owners to pick up after their pups with plenty of trash cans in view. Following the on-leash rule means everyone can have a fun time in the sun. Parking is close by and free, plus there is a paved walkway along the beach which is sure to be a “paws up” for dogs who love coming to this doggo's paradise. The closest restrooms are at Fort Maurepas park which is adjacent to the beach. This pristine park also features picnic tables and a pirate ship playground for kids.

Sitting on the sand, you can’t miss the massive, concrete bridge that connects Ocean Springs with Biloxi Bay in Harrison County. There are sailboats up on the beach and a low dividing wall separating the shore from the walk-way and road. The water is warm and reasonably shallow while a private pier juts out into the water where locals can be seen fishing. Sparse plantings of green shrubs break up the glistening, white sand so you’ll need to bring a tent or umbrella for your pooch.
