Westport-Union Landing State Beach

Northern California's Mendocino County boasts mile after mile of rugged and spectacular coastline. Located roughly 200 miles northwest of Sacramento and a few miles north of the small town of Westport, this pristine beach welcomes dogs on leashes no longer than six feet. And if you're looking for an uncrowded beach that features more memorable coastal scenery than you can wag a tail at, this is the spot for you.

Westport-Union Landing Beach covers around three miles of rocky, windswept coastline. It's a paw-fect spot for you and your dog to take a stroll and go exploring, or just park yourselves on the sand and watch the waves rolling in.

The beach is also home to three separate campgrounds with a total of 86 campsites. Located on the bluffs behind the beach, all three camping areas offer spectacular views out over the Pacific Ocean. If you're looking for an Instagram moment, the sunsets over this stretch of coastline are truly spectacular. And with the beach set against a background of tree-covered mountains, there are plenty of opportunities for amateur photographers to hone their skills.

Picnic tables and restrooms are also available, but don't forget to pack extra clothing as the weather can change fairly quickly. You'll also need to ensure that your pooch is well socialized, under your control at all times, and that you take care to clean up after your dog.
