Description

Carr Creek Lake Shelters are situated on Carr Creek Lake, found on the same Kentucky Highway 160 as Littcarr Campground. The lakes, fisheries, and recreation areas are maintained and protected by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The primary feature near the Carr Creek Lake Shelters is the magnificent mountains - part of the Southeastern Kentucky, which is several miles from Hazard and 18 miles from Whitesburg. Nearby is a dam approximately 8.8 miles above the Carr Fork, a smaller stream meeting the North Fork of the Kentucky River.

The Carr Creek Lake Shelters occupy a 710-acre lake boasting a multitude of outdoor activities such as boating and water skiing. Fishing is hugely popular with sportsman providing an opportunity to catch Crappie, Bass, Billie, and Walleye in a short session on the water. And during the hotter months, the local Kentucky Department of Fisheries and Wildlife release a ton of trout into the lakes for the fisherman.

And for those who want to explore wildlife on the land, you have the opportunity to hike on a short trail which is close to the Dam and the Tailwater area. Hikers who would like to hike a longer trail, approximately 6 miles long, can walk through from the dam to Sugar Lake Road.

You may be wondering how many shelters are available during the peak season from April to September. In total, there are 8 shelters, called Dogwood, Holly, Laurel, Pin Oak, Poplar, Sycamore, White Pine, and Willow. These beautiful shelters are fully equipped with electricity, grills, picnic tables, and indoor lighting. All the shelters can hold up to 200 people. Another thing to note is that dogs must be on their leash at all times, and that Golden Age and Access Passports are not accepted for bookings.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
