Description

Escape the city and hide out in the woods of New Mexico at Fawn Lake Campground! This state-owned facility lets guests stay in the beautiful Carson National Forest, right beside the both Red River and not one, but two lakes, making this spot any angler's paradise.

The campground was recently updated, giving all visitors a paved tent pad in addition to each site's fire ring and picnic table. Though you won't find a comfort station here, several vault toilets are provided along with drinking water accessible via faucets. A host stays at the property to assist you during your stay and they keep a stock of firewood for purchase -- so you can roast marshmallows to your heart's content! For those with trailers and RVs, a dumpsite can be found just outside of the campground where you can get rid of all grey water. The nightly rate to stay here is just $18, meaning this destination is great for anyone on a budget.

With so many bodies of water around the facility, it's no wonder that fishermen and women flock to the campground to try their luck at casting lines. Don't worry -- if you end up empty-handed, the nearby town of Red River has many little eateries to choose from including Shotgun Willie's and Anchovies Pizzeria. For the four-legged and two-legged hikers, the Columbine Trailhead lies just short drive away, as do many other paths in the area.

When it comes to your fur-buddy, Carson Forest is pretty lax on the rules. Be sure to clean up and dispose of any pet waste your woofer leaves behind, not only for the convenience of other campers but also to discourage any wildlife from entering the campground. While out on the trails, the forest management asks that all dog owners carry a leash so that puppers can be restrained (if necessary) while passing other hikers.

To really ruff it for your next camping trip, head to Fawn Lake Campground!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
