Description

If you're searching for a pet-friendly campground in Ohio where you can enjoy a host of recreational water activities, Muskingum River State Park is definitely worth a visit. Located in Zanesville, this pretty park offers fishing and boating opportunities with interesting history and some beautiful natural scenery. The best thing about it, however, is that your furry friend is more than welcome to set up camp with you.

In the past, Muskingum River's system of locks and dams played a crucial role in the development of the state of Ohio and even the entire Midwest. Stretching for 112 miles through southeastern Ohio, it allowed trade and development to branch out into this area of the United States. As a result, the region has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized as the Muskingum River Navigation Historic District.

These days, the river is frequented by everything from motorboats and pontoon boats to canoes and kayaks. There are public launch ramps available at locks 4, 5, 6, 7, and 11, and you can navigate the river from Dresden to Marietta.

Fishing is a popular pastime for those exploring the water, with anglers targeting three species of black bass, saugeye, and catfish. If you'd rather stay on dry land, the park boasts 10 picnic areas with picnic tables, grills, and latrines.

If you want to stay the night, there are 19 non-electric campsites available, all of which are pet-friendly. Of course, you'll need to take care to ensure that you abide by all Ohio state park rules and regulations when camping with your canine pal. These include keeping your dog on a leash of six feet or shorter, and cleaning up after your pet at all times.

Muskingum River State Park offers a unique and memorable outdoor experience you can share with your dog, so keep it in mind when planning your next camping trip.
