Description

Ninilchik State Recreation Area has two campgrounds within the park. Ninilchik View Campground offers a spectacular view over Ninilchik Beach from a perch high on a bluff. From there, you can enjoy fantastic views of Mt. Iliamna and Mt. Redoubt, both of which are active volcanos, as well as Copok Inlet. Plus, you can appreciate a variety of wildlife, including rambunctious squirrels, mischievous magpies, and elegant bald eagles in the beautiful forest setting.

Both fishing and clamming are popular activities at the Ninilchik View Campground, though it's important to be aware of incoming tides if you head out into the water or you could accidentally become stranded on a sandbar.

The Ninilchik River Campground is nestled beneath beautiful birch and spruce trees and has a walking trail to the nearby river. A variety of small animals call the area home, and moose have even been spotted on-site. Colorful wildflowers also dot the landscape, creating a magnificent scene.

Ninilchik River Campground has more campsites and facilities than its counterpart on the bluff. ADA accessible trails and bathrooms are available, as well as picnic sites and shelters. It’s a popular destination for both fishing and hiking. The numerous trails are excellent for exercising your dog, making it a great option for camping with a pet.

If you want to journey out of the park, consider making a stop at the historical Ninilchik Village which offers an old-world setting featuring a Russian Orthodox Church on the nearby hill, a variety of quaint cottages and log homes, and tons of charm.

If you bring your dog to either campground, your pooch must remain on a leash and be kept no further than nine feet away from you at all times. Also, make sure you are ready to clean up after your pet ensuring the area remains pristine and the local flora and fauna are not disturbed. The campsites provide access to dumpsters, so you’ll have a place to dispose of any trash or other waste.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
