Description

Among lush forests filled with hardwoods and red pines, you will find Pokegama Dam Campground, a secluded, nature-filled sanctuary that sits by the Mississippi River. The campground is pet-friendly, making it the perfect place to sit back and relax with your canine buddy by the lake while you fish or explore the vast wilderness on leashed hikes.Ā

The campground is composed of 22 sites, including 19 back-in sites that offer electric hookups, two padded tent sites, and a day use area with a picnic shelter. All of the sites are paved, level, and well-shaded, which means owners won't have to worry about their fur-balls overheating during the summer. With more than enough shade to cool off in, canines will also be able to roll around in the spacious and grass-filled campsites while their owners supervise and check them for ticks afterward.Ā

Hot dogs over the fire or toasted marshmallows for breakfast? Both! Since each site comes with a fire ring and a picnic table, making meals here is a breeze. Please make sure to store and dispose of food properly in the designated trash receptacles to keep the environment clean and wildlife at bay. Although some wild animals may be cute and harmless, porcupines and black bears can be encountered in the area as well.Ā This is also why the campgroundā€™s rules state that all pets must remain leashed at all times. Tent sites are $14 per night while standard electric sites are $26 per night.Ā

The campground features hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and drinking fountains. If that wasn't enough, anglers will be especially happy to discover a boat ramp and a fish-cleaning station on-site and countless fishing docks nearby. This makes fishing in the Pokegama Lake for walleye, bluegill, and bass that much more enjoyable. To keep the little ones entertained, the Pokegama Dam Campground features a playground, horseshoes, and plenty of berries to pick. Ducks, geese, loons, and bald eagles can all be spotted too, so bird watching is another fun activity everyone can participate in during their visit. For must-sees outside of the campground, be sure to check out the Forest History Center, the Childrenā€™s Discovery Museum or the Judy Garland Museum.Ā

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
