Description

If you're looking to experience some of the best that Iowa's state park system has to offer, why not take a pet-friendly camping vacation in Springbrook State Park? Located roughly 60 miles northwest of Des Moines by road, this 930-acre state park offers myriad opportunities for outdoor recreation and relaxation.

Tucked away in rolling hills, Springbrook State Park is home to a small lake, abundant wildlife, hiking trails, and buildings constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

The best place to start your visit is at the 17-acre lake, which has a beach for unsupervised swimming. This is a lovely spot to cool off during the warmer months, while anglers can target crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill, and more. The lake features three fishing jetties, two docks, and a boat ramp to help those keen to cast a line.

Next, why not explore the 12 miles of trails that wind their way through the park? These are suitable for either a casual stroll or more energetic exercise and offer an easy way to get up close and personal with the surrounding landscape.

When you're ready to set up camp, the Springbrook State Park campground is open, spacious, and home to a number of modern amenities. Electric and non-electric sites are available, and you'll also find sand volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits and a playground nearby. Best of all, the campground is pet-friendly. But please note that while there is one multi-family cabin available, it doesn't permit pets.

If you're camping with your pet, make sure you keep your pooch in designated dog-friendly areas and on a leash of six feet or shorter at all times. Remembering to clean up after your dog whenever necessary is also a must. Daily rates for campsites start at $6 for a tent site during the off-season.

Springbrook State Park offers a relaxing retreat for anyone who wants to get back to nature with their furry friend, so why not treat your pooch and the rest of the family to a vacation in this beautiful recreational area?
