Description

You can choose from a variety of ways to camp when you visit Colorado State Forest State Park. With 158 campsites and 15 cabins and yurts available by reservation, you should be able to get accommodations to suit your needs. You'll find primitive, tent-only facilities, basic sites without hookups, and spots with electric hookups here. A daily vehicle pass is $8, and camping fees range from $18 to $36 per night. Higher nightly fees apply for cabins and yurts.

The 71,000-acre forest offers a variety of activities that are perfect for people and pups who love the outdoors. Come here to view the moose and be enthralled by the alpine lakes and rocky peaks of the Medicine Bow Range. This place leaves you with no excuse for boredom. There are miles of trails for hiking, four-wheel driving, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

One pathway you can explore is the 6.5-mile Michigan Ditch Trail from Cameron Pass to just below Lake Agnes. On the way, you'll have pawtastic views of Diamond Peaks to the north and Nokhu Crags to the south. Connect to the Lake Agnes Trailhead to continue to the water. Spend some time fly fishing for trout and salmon here. In addition to the moose population, the area has bears, elk, antelope, grouse, and other wildlife. This area is situated at a high elevation -- be prepared for sudden storms and take precautions to prevent altitude sickness.

One of the great things about this forest is that you can share it with Fido! Leashed dogs can join you in the campground -- just be sure to scoop up their poop and dispose of it properly. If you want to bring them with you to stay in a cabin, there's a $10 pet fee per night.

Come to the high mountains for a vacation in Colorado's State Forest State Park. Spend your days enjoying activities like hiking, snowshoeing, boating, and fishing in the high alpine lakes. Don't forget to "paws" to admire the scenic vistas around you!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
