Description

Valley of the Rogue would have to be one of the most memorable and intriguing names given to a state park anywhere in the United States. So named because of its location in southern Oregon's Rogue Valley, this wonderful state park offers a little something for anyone who enjoys spending time in the great outdoors.

Encompassing 277 acres, this popular park runs along the banks of the Rogue River, offering more than three miles of shoreline to explore. The best way to do that is to take a stroll along the River's Edge Interpretive Trail, a self-guided hike designed to help you learn more about the plant and animal life in this part of the world. This relaxing 1.25-mile trail intersects the four-mile Rogue River Greenway Trail, which offers a longer hike for those feeling a little more energetic.

A boat launch ramp is provided in the park for those looking to get out on the water, and excellent fishing is available for anyone keen to try.

If you want to stay the night, Valley of the Rogue State Park offers 95 full-hookup sites, 55 electrical sites with water, and 14 tent sites with water nearby. Best of all, the campground is pet-friendly and your pooch is more than welcome to join you.

Even better, half of the park's eight yurts permit pets to stay as well. Tent sites are $19 a night, full hookup sites will set you back $31, and yurts cost $53.

If visiting with your pet, make sure you stick to the dog-friendly areas of the park and that your pet is always leashed and under control. As per usual, don't forget to clean up after your pet whenever the need arises.

Valley of the Rogue State Park is a pleasant spot to spend a night or three enjoying some fresh air and scenery -- plus, it also acts as a great base from which to explore the surrounding area. Make a plan to check it out if you're ever passing through this part of Oregon.
