Description

In Centerville, Ohio, near Columbus, A.W. Marion State Park is a small but unique state park offering plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities. The region where A.W. Marion State Park is located has a diverse natural environment, with woodlands, plains, and prairie, which is home to foxes, pheasant, songbirds, and deer.

With over 300 acres of rolling woodlands, quiet lake atmosphere, and a ton of things to do, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. On the 145-acre Hargus Lake, visitors can enjoy boating (electric motors only) or rent a boat from the marina. Fishing from the lake may yield largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. Visitors must have a valid fishing license.

While there is no official swimming beach, there are designated “boat swim” areas where guests may swim from their boats. For dogs, the park offers a designated off-leash area with lake access for swimming. On land, there are about five miles of trails to explore, which provide access to the entire shoreline.

If you plan to do some hiking with your dog at the A.W. Marion State Park, bring enough water for both you and your pooch, and always pack waste bags to keep the trails free of waste. Be respectful of posted park rules and do not allow your dog to disturb local wildlife or other park guests.

Additionally, there are playgrounds in the park and in the campground, as well as volleyball and basketball courts, and horseshoe pits. For overnight guests, there are 29 electric and 29 non-electric sites. Call the park’s office or go online to make reservations. During winter months and under proper conditions, the park allows sledding, ice skating, and ice fishing.

Ohio state parks do not require fees for admission or day-use areas. Overnight camping or other facility rentals require a fee. See the park's website for details. If you are in the Columbus area, bring your family and furry companions to the A.W. Marion State Park to enjoy the park’s peaceful beauty.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
