Bailey Park

For unfettered fun in the shoreline area, bring your four-legged best friend to Bailey's Dog Park! The brainchild of dog-loving residents, this fenced-in, off-leash dog park is open to all canines looking to socialize and get some exercise, whether they live in Clinton or the surrounding towns.

Named after a local pooch whose human helped make the dog park a reality, Bailey's Dog Park is situated near the Ethel Peters Recreation Complex and the Lewin G. Joel, Jr. School. You can park your car at the recreation complex and walk up a small path to reach the dog park. Make sure Fido's leash stays on when you're entering and exiting the park, and only remove it once you're inside the double gates.

There is no separate section for small or timid dogs, so try to ease your pup into it if they're shy and not used to mingling with other canines. Stop by during the mornings and weekends, which, according to the regulars, are less busy than weekday afternoons. Toys are provided to keep dogs occupied during off-peak times, as are mutt mitts, trash receptacles, running water, and drinking bowls for your convenience.

You'll also find benches, picnic tables, and shady spots inside the enclosure, but remember to keep an eye on your furry charge at all times even while you're chatting with your fellow dog parents. Though the dog park is fenced in, the fence is not particularly high, so big pooches and high jumpers might be able to go over it.

Since Bailey's is an unsupervised, self-policing location, visitors are expected to help keep the park a pawtastic place to be. Do your part by always picking up after your pup, filling in any holes that they might dig, and making sure their vaccinations are up-to-date.
