Bare Cove Park Off Leash Dog Area

Treat your pup to an afternoon in Bare Cove Park. This beautiful slice of nature spreads across nearly 500 acres of land and is nestled on the banks of the Weymouth River. Your pup will pawsitively love exploring this furrific place!

Before visiting Bare Cove Park, there are a few things to know. First, there are areas of the park where your dog can run around without a leash. However, before they can have this freedom, you need to obtain a Bare Cove Park Off Leash Dog Walking Permit from the Hingham Town Clerk. Pet parents must submit necessary documentation including their own ID, insurance policy, proof of pup’s license and rabies vaccination, and a photo of owner and dog. Please note that only dogs with a permit can walk off leash on certain days of the year, and stay within visual sight of their owners at all times. Dogs without a permit must always remain leashed anywhere throughout the park.

Once you have your permit, be sure to follow the posted rules. Remember dogs must be leashed upon entrance and exit to the off leash areas. Unrestricted areas where permitted dogs can run off leash are marked on park grounds, making it easy for owners. For the most part, pupsters are not allowed on the waterfront, but there is one section of beach designated for canine visitors. Some of the pawperty is only available for off leash fun during certain months of the year. It’s a good idea to carry a map so you always know exactly where your furry friend can roam.

There are several woodland trails that your pooch can meander along. Bare Cove Path, Back River Path, and Marsh View Path are all open to furry park patrons. Bare Cove Park is a wildlife sanctuary. The dense woods, open fields, and wetlands are home to a wide variety of plants and animals. If your pooch is extra quiet, you may come across a fox, deer, or coyote. If you are lucky enough to see an animal, help your pup mind their manners. Have water on hand to share with your thirsty pup, and don’t forget clean-up bags to help pick up after your doggo.
