Description

Looking to get some R&R with your furry BFF? If you find yourselves in northwest Wyoming, look no further than the Buffalo Bill State Park! Named for famous Wild West showman Colonel William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, this expansive site draws nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts with its rugged beauty and recreational activities. The park comprises several developed day use areas, 3,000 acres of land, and 9,000 acres of water, so you can bet that there's plenty to see and do until the sun goes down!

One of the park's main attractions is the Buffalo Bill Reservoir, which attracts water enthusiasts from all over. Launch your boat from one of the ramps, and feel the wind in your hair as you and Fido glide across the sparkling waters—the reservoir was once rated one of the top 10 wind surfing spots in the country! Make sure your pooch has a life jacket on before you set off.

If your pup would rather stay on land, prepare a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of park's many picnic-friendly day use areas. With the exception of Sheep Mountain, all day use areas are open year-round. You and your furry buddy can also go looking for the geocaches hidden around the park. Enjoy the puptacular mountain scenery as you're exploring the area, and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife such as elk, deer, and prairie dogs as well.

Buffalo Bill offers two campgrounds, North Fork and North Shore, for overnighters. North Fork generally has less visitor traffic, making it pawfectly suited for a quiet camping trip. But unlike North Shore, it is only open during the summer months. Wherever you go in the park, remember to keep your pupper on a leash and clean up after them at all times. Note that there is an entrance fee of $4-6 per vehicle for Wyoming residents and $6-9 per vehicle for out-of-state guests.

A furrific time awaits you and Fido at the Buffalo Bill State Park!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
