Description

City of Rocks National Reserve is located about 45 miles south of Burley, Idaho and close to Oakley City, which is in Cassia County, Idaho. The total area that the national reserve covers is approximately 14,500 acres. The park was established on November 18, 1988, and is managed by both the National Park Service and the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.

Several routes can be used to access the park. If traveling from Boise or from the west, you can drive along Interstate 84 to Declo Exit 216 and then proceed south using ID 77 to Albion, Elba, Almo, and to the park. If you are traveling from Pocatello or Idaho Falls, you can use I-86 and I-84 to the Declo Exit and then proceed south to Almo. Almo is a small unincorporated community in Cassia County and a very short distance from the park.

There is a lot to appreciate once you get to the City of Rocks National Reserve. For starters, you will find the remnants of the California National Historic Trail which is still visible in the area. Secondly, you will see smooth granite faces that offer excellent rock-climbing opportunities and with over 500 identified climbing routes. Third, you will also find beautiful granite spires and sculptured rock formations that are widely prevalent in the area to offer visitors a picturesque view.

Besides these attractions, visitors can also participate in recreational activities like hiking, camping, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, interpretive and educational programs, snowmobiling, and mountain biking. Visitors with dogs are also welcome into City of Rocks National Reserve, but they will need to ensure that they avoid park buildings and ensure that their dogs are always restrained using a leash or a secure container. Additionally, dogs should be well-behaved, and dog owners should ensure that they clean up after their pets right away.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
