Edisto Beach State Park

Edisto Beach State Park encompasses a total area of 1255 acres and is located in the furthest eastern section of the state of South Carolina. To access the park just travel along Highway 174 about 28 miles until you reach the entrance to the town at Edisto beach. This park is one of the four oceanfront state parks in the state of South Carolina and therefore offers several unique features that make this park quite appealing to visitors. The park is also rich in Native American history and this means that the park also has a lot to offer besides appreciation the natural splendor within the park.

Besides the above-mentioned features of the park, Edisto Beach State Park is also a great place to observe unique species of wildlife including loggerhead sea turtles in their natural nesting area. Other wildlife within the park includes raccoon, white-tailed deer, and opossum. Plant species that you can predominantly find at the park include the tallest Palmetto trees that you can find across the state of South Carolina.

Besides the flora and fauna at the park, visitors to the park can also enjoy several other activities within the park including fishing, camping, boating, swimming, hiking, and seasonal interpretive programs. Amenities available at the park to facilitate these activities include four miles of ADA accessible trails, one and a half miles of beach, laden with seashells, two oceanfront picnic shelters, two campgrounds with over 200 campsites, seven cabins, an Environmental Learning Center with interactive exhibit, boat ramps, dock, fishing pier, playground, and a gift shop.

If you have a dog, you are welcome to bring them to the park. You, however, need to follow basic South Carolina Park rules including keeping your pooch on a six-foot leash (maximum length) or secured in an enclosure. You must also avoid taking your dog into lodge areas. That said, you are most welcome to walk your dog in most outdoor areas as long as you avoid disturbing wildlife within the park.
