Garden of the Gods Off Leash Dog Area

The Garden Of The Gods Off Leash Dog Area can be found in the Garden of the Gods national park in the town of Colorado Springs, Colorado. There is ample parking for vehicles in the nature centres lot. Parking and admission into the reserve is free of charge.

Dogs must be maintained on their leashes, which must be less than six feet long, in all parts of the nature reserve apart from the designated off-leash area. The off-leash area is located to the east of the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site. It is a large open field the boundaries of which are marked with posts. It is not enclosed with any fencing. All dogs using the off-leash area must be trained to voice control.

The off-leash area is surfaced with tufty, rough grass interspersed with patches of dirt. There are a few trees and some low shrubbery. It is a very natural space and owners should ensure their dog has up to date protection for parasites such as ticks and fleas. The Colorado Springs authorities require all dogs whether on a leash or in the off-leash area to be accompanied by an adult over sixteen years of age. No handler is allowed to exercise more than three dogs at any one time. It is obligatory for any dog with a history of aggression to wear a muzzle. All dogs using the dog park must be correctly licensed and vaccinated and wear the appropriate tags on their collars.

There is no fresh water supply in the off-leash area. Pet owners must carry their own supply and a drinking bowl for their dog. Pet owners must also provide their own poop bags and ensure they collect all poop produced by their dogs. The park authorities request one hundred percent compliance with this regulation to make sure the nature reserve environment is maintained in its correct state. The park closes at 5 pm in the winter months.
