Homolovi Ruins State Park

Homolovi Ruins State Park occupies a total area of approximately 4,500 acres of land that is located in Navajo County in Arizona and near Winslow city. To access the main entrance to the park, visitors should find the I-40 and find their way just off the road outside Winslow. The park was created in 1986 and is managed by the Arizona State Parks. Homolovi Ruins State Park is a place that preserves Hopi Culture. 

The Hopi were a Native American tribe with an Uzo-Aztecan culture and that lived mostly on the Hopi reservation in northeastern Arizona between 1260 and 1400 AD. Some of the artifacts that the Hopi left behind, and on the park’s land, include petroglyphs, broken pottery, traditional pit houses, and kivas which were underground ceremonial chambers. All these artifacts and ruins can be found on seven different ruin sites. 

Besides the historical, cultural and archeological significance of this tract of protected land, the park is also a place that visitors can get to use for several other recreational activities including hiking, picnicking, camping, wildlife viewing, and interpretive programs. There are several amenities in the park for visitors to enjoy including a visitor center, pueblo ruins, exhibits, dump station, 53 campsites with electric hook-ups, bookstore, picnic areas, restrooms, picnic shelters, showers, and trails.

Dogs are allowed in the park, but dog owners should be aware of some rules that will guide their experience here. Some of the rules regarding dogs are as follows. First, all dogs and other pets should always be on a leash. When not on a leash, they should be kept in a secure enclosure. Secondly, dog owners should be aware of the areas of the park that they can and cannot visit with their pooch. Third, dog owners should keep their dogs well-behaved and ensure that they clean up after their pooch.
