Honey Creek State Park

Honey Creek State Park is located about 12 miles southeast of Moravia City and encompasses a total area of about 828 acres in Appanoose County, Iowa. The park is also close in proximity to Albia City and Centerville City.

One of the unique features of this park is the fact that it is located on a peninsula that is right along a part of the Rathbun Lake's shore that measures 828 acres in width. Honey Creek and Rathbun Lake are both a part of the more elaborate Rathbun Lake recreation complex that is comprised of a total of eight parks that measure up to 11,000 acres of land, 155 miles of shoreline, two marinas, and 21,000 acres of public land.

Some of the facilities within the park that encourage visitors to come to the park include an interpretive trail, open picnic shelters, boat ramps, several modern campsites (with showers and restrooms), and hiking trails. The park also includes a 375-acre fish hatchery that was built in 1979. Activities that are popular at the park include swimming, camping, fishing, boating, and hiking.

Dogs are allowed into the park at no extra cost. If you bring your dog into the park, you should follow state park rules. Some of the relevant park rules that relate to your dog include the following. First, you should prevent your dog from loitering around the park. 

In fact, it is expected that you will keep your pooch in a secure enclosure or on a leash that is no more than six feet in length at all times. If you decide to camp in the park and if you have more than two dogs, then it is expected that you will find alternative accommodation for your other dogs because there is a limit of only two dogs per dog-designated cabin or yurt.
