Interstate State Park

Is your dog craving sometime in the great outdoors? Then grab your backpack and head over to Interstate State Park for a pawsome adventure. Established in 1900, this just happens to be Wisconsin’s oldest state park. It’s located on the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and is home of the Dalles of the St. Croix, a deep gorge carved during the end of the Ice Age. You know you’re in for some puptacular scenery!

This park has a host of trails for your furry friend to choose from. They are all pretty short in length, so if your pal has loads of energy, consider combining a few trails. Horizon Rock Trail is definitely worth checking out. Let your pooch be the guide as you follow this trail up a wooded bluff to Horizon Rock. From here you get a great view of the surrounding river valley. For a more secluded experience, hop on the Silverbrook Trail. It leaves the busier area of the park, passes an old copper mine, and ends up at a beautiful waterfall. At 1.6 miles, the Skyline Trail is the longest hike in the park. Your dog will love making their way up to the forested ridge and feeling like their on top of the world!

If your pup loves this place too much to leave, stay the night at one of the two campgrounds. Both have plenty of sites, electric hookups, drinking water, showers and restrooms. If your pooch prefers the comfort of their own bed and just wants to visit for the day, bring a sandwich and stick around for a leisurely lunch at the designated pet picnic area. Be sure you always have a couple clean up bags on hand. Do your part to keep the park smelling fresh by picking up after your pup. Make no mistake; your doggo will go mutts over this place!
