Old Plank Road Track

The Old Plank Road Trail consists of a 22-mile long paved path, crossing Park Forest from Joliet to Campbell Heights in Northern Illinois. It is actually an abandoned railroad used to connect several Illinois towns to Forest Preserve lands, as well as natural areas of the neighboring community.

Aiming to restore the natural character of the surrounding regions, The Old Plank Road Trail provides visitors with a place to go bike riding, running, fishing or simply walking their dog. Called The Old Plank Road Track, the dog area is located toward the western end of the Old Plank Road Trail, at Briggs and East Washington in Joliet, IL. It is a paved walk area which requires all dogs to be leashed.

There are no fees needed to enter the property and no operating hours restrictions. Visitors can have access to restrooms, which are situated on the north side of East Washington Street. In addition to this, the entrance to the trail provides canine lovers with a picnic table, while an extra trailhead with parking can be found at South Park Road to the north of East Washington Street.

The Old Plank Road Track is an on-leash dog area, operating from dawn till dusk. It is frequently shared with bikers, who are obligated to yield to pedestrians. Dog owners are offered waste bags to clean up after their furry companions, which they can pick up at the trail’s other entrance, located further east off of Washington onto Park Street.

Old Plank Road Track is a great place to have fun and enjoy the outdoors along with your dog, surrounded by the beautiful Will County preserve. It provides access to different recreational trails along the way and scenic dog walking trails, free of charge.
