Description
The Red Hills State Park is located on 967 acres of property in Sumner, Illinois. Situated in Lawrence County between the towns of Olney and Lawrenceville, this beautiful recreational area and campground is a favorite destination for vacationing families and their beloved pooches.

The land is characterized by hilly terrain which is marked by heavily forested areas, streams, and natural springs. Also housed on the grounds is a 40-acre lake which is well-suited to fishing, swimming, and other recreational water sports. The area is also home to the 627 acre Chauncey Marsh Nature Preserve which bears the remains of the precious and now endangered Wabash Border Marsh Ecosystem. The pinnacle of the Red Hills forms the highest point in the state and offers breathtaking views which stretch from St. Louis to Cincinnati.

Though there is not an area specifically set aside for dog play at Red Hills State Park, dogs are warmly welcomed to join their owners on the premises. In accordance with Illinois state dog by-laws, all dogs visiting this beautiful park and campground are to remain on a lead at all times.

Red Hills State Park is a public recreational space and there is no cost for people and their pooches to enjoy the grounds. Campsites are available on the property. Reservations are required, and additional fees apply. In addition to the over 100 camping sites housed on the property, there is a 1/4 acre section of land known as Veterans' Point which is reserved specifically for use by ex-servicemen and/or veterans to enjoy. Bathrooms are situated on the premises for public use, and here, owners can obtain drinking water to ensure Fido has a cool drink to wet his whistle should the urge strike. Complimentary clean up bags are not provided, so families should carry bags with them at all times to assist them with this task.

There are many interesting activities for families to enjoy during their visit to Red Hills State Park. These include hiking, camping, picnicking, boating, and fishing. In the winter months, the property is also amenable to ice skating and ice fishing.

Dogs visiting Red Hills State Park should be licensed with their city and up to date on vaccinations. Looking for a great new park to explore? Consider a visit to Red Hills State Park!
