Schappacher Dog Park
The high traffic that this park receives can leave the grass a bit thin and can devolve into a great deal of mud on rainy days, and they tried to counteract that by laying mulch down in the areas where there is not a lot of grass or regions exceptionally prone to getting muddy.
The off-leash section of the Schappacher Dog Park is fenced and is about a half-acre. Also inside this fenced location are a few benches, a doggie bag stand, and a few covered areas to provide shade or shelter from the rain. The park also has a high canopy of trees that provide shade and a good view.
Outside of the fenced area at the Schappacher Dog Park, a pavilion stands with picnic tables placed below it. A few BBQ grills can be found scattered around this building. Here there are also some restrooms and a fountain with running water, but you will need to bring your dog bowl.
Near the pavilion is a fairly large playground with swings and slides and the like. Your canine is not allowed on these facilities, even if they are on a leash, but it does help to provide something to do for the whole family. Overall this park is quite exceptional, it stays nice, and the city takes quite good care of it. The facilities are in good shape and exceed most parks.
There is a good amount of parking available with no fees. On the downside, this is a single fenced area. There is not a separate enclosure for small dogs, so bring your small canines at your own risk, and if you intend to bring a more massive canine with you, make sure they have been socialized with small dogs and are not prone to aggression.
