Vernon Park

If you’re looking for a beautiful park to explore with your furry best friend, Vernon Park is perfect for you! This scenic eight-acre park is located in Philadelphia’s historic Germantown neighborhood. Dogs are welcome to join you in this furrific park on-leash.

As you walk along the paved path that winds through Vernon Park, you’ll pass a playground and beautiful manicured gardens that date back to the 1800s. You’ll also see a rain garden and a bird habitat that features thick bushes and trees. The paths are lined with oak trees that keep the walkways shady and cool. If you need a break during your walk, there are plenty of benches throughout the park where you can relax with your pup. Be aware that there’s no water in the park, so it’s a good idea to bring some with you to keep your dog happy and hydrated.

Vernon Park is also home to pawsitively amazing historic sites, including the stunning Wister Mansion. This mansion was built by James Matthews in 1805. In 1812, a man named John Wister bought it from him. Today, a statute of John Wister still sits in front of his mansion.

There are also many other monuments throughout the park, including a monument that commemorates the Battle of Germantown in the Revolutionary War. There’s also a monument that’s dedicated to Francis Daniel Pastorius, the founder of Germantown. If you’re an art lover, you’ll be excited to hear that the park has a beautiful mosaic mural, which was commissioned by the Friends of Vernon Park in the 1990s. Vernon Park truly has something for everyone!
