Description

No matter the weather, the Fish Creek Trail is the perfect place to get outside and enjoy a beautiful hike through the state's rural landscape, with views of the natural wonders that surround the area. Although the trail is rugged, made from compacted soil with rocks and boulders along the way, its well marked and offers easy access to the river and overlooks.

The hike offers a nice incline the entire way, starting at the campsite of Fish Creek Campground. The campground itself has a wide array of amenities, including free parking for hikers. When you get to the campsite, you'll enjoy perks like a fenced off area for horses, water hose, picnic tables, and 7 campsites with fire rings. The trailhead for Fish Creek Trail is on the northern side of the campground, which offers a bridge as its main defining feature.

The bridge crosses over Fish Creek and sustains pretty views of the glistening water, and connects to side trails that lead down to natural beaches for swimming and fishing. Fido can enjoy these amenities too, or you can continue on and enjoy the rubber landscape with open sage grass fields and willows hovering over the trail. The trail follows along the creek, with multiple points to enjoy other activities. Fishing is especially popular among the first 2 to 3 miles of the trail, but after that, there are even more amazing views, and small waterfalls too!

With the chance to see wildlife like cranes and songbirds, wildlife observation is possible too. Other trail-goers will be allowed to ride their horses, ride their bike, ski, or snowshoe along the path in the winter. The trail crosses over the creek one more time and even offers overlooks of the Monument Peak and Candland Mountain. Once you're at the end, you'll come up across a small parking lot along the trail's second trailhead at Skyline Drive. Here you can be picked up, or travel back down the slope to get back to Fish Creek Campground.

The campground is dog-friendly, although it requires a fee to stay overnight. So whether you decide to stay the night or just enjoy an afternoon, it won't be long before you and Fido are rushing back to this scenic and peaceful retreat.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
