Description

Is your pack on the prowl for a fun outdoor escape near Fort Worth? Look no further than the trail system at Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge! This preserve is nicknamed the "hidden jewel of Fort Worth", and for good reason! This complex ecosystem features pristine natural habitats such as forests, prairies, and lakes, with equally diverse animal life! Don't be surprised if you see deer, alligators, and snakes -- just make sure you watch your step for the last one! They also have a pasture specifically dedicated to their bison herd and the calves!

This is a very delicate ecosystem, so make sure you keep your pooch leashed and pick up any messes they may leave behind. Hours for the refuge vary slightly by season. The preserve opens at 8 AM in the winter and 7 AM in the summer, but you will need to be off the trails by 5 pm all times of the year. This is a popular attraction but the trails are rarely congested, even on the weekends!

With over 18 miles of trails, each just as beautiful as the last, you'll get more than enough exercise for your pup here! The trail difficulty ratings range from easy to moderate, so your pack can enjoy every one no matter if they are a sofa spud or a marathon runner! The two-part Riverbottom Path is about 4 miles in length and is a great way to take in the scenery and get your heart pumping!

Entrance fees are $5 for adults, $2 for children aged 3-12 (under 3 FREE), and $3 for seniors (65+), but is a small price to pay for such a scenic and educational experience! The refuge offers a $1 discount for military personnel (both active and retired) with military ID. The refuge is open 8 AM to 5 PM from October through April. May through September, it is open from 7 AM to 5 PM on weekdays, and weekends from 7 AM to 7 PM.Trail running is not allowed, but who would really want to rush through such a spectacular experience?

This preserve will give your pack a tranquil get away from the hustle and bustle of city life! Pack a lunch and stay for a while -- we promise you won't regret it!
