Green Ridge / Lost Lake Trail #946

The Green Ridge/ Lost Lake Trail is located in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest. This is a great hike for families with children and fur-babies because of its easy, rolling hill terrain. Four lakes along its route offer scenic views, as well as a chance to spy wildlife like waterfowl and deer. This hike can easily accommodate some pauses for exploration around the lakes' shores before moving on to the next section. 

The trailhead can be found off Laramie River Road (Colorado Highway 103) about 1.5 mile from Highway 14 near Chambers Lake on the opposite side of the road. The trailhead is well marked, as is the trail, with orange and blue diamonds on signs and trees. Be sure to bring plenty of water for everyone, because there's none provided, nor is there a restroom. Parking for 7 vehicles is available here.

The Green Ridge Trail begins with a walk through trees to Lost Lake, east of the path. Your fur-pup can enjoy a dip and a drink here. Farther along, you'll climb up and down the gently rising hills and across meadows full of wildflowers and grass in the spring and summer. In the forested areas, lodgepole pine and firs are dense, and your footfalls are muted by the fallen needles as you walk. Soon you'll come upon Laramie Lake which can be reached by an unmarked trail descending to the right.

Once the ridgeline is attained, some 500 feet higher than where you started, you'll be treated to views of the Rawah Mountain Range to the west, and you'll spy South and North Twin Lakes, both of which merit exploration. The trail ends at Deadman Road west of Feather Lakes. 

A portion of this trail is used after July 1st by off-road vehicles, so be sure to listen for them and stay well to the side when they pass, keeping a tight hand on Fido's leash. In the winter, this path becomes a snow sportsman's paradise, and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing become popular pastimes. Snowmobilers use the road portions as well.
