Lake Chabot Regional Park
If you want to take a beautiful lakeside stroll with your dog, head to Lake Chabot Regional Park! This pawesome park has about 20 miles of trails to explore with your dog. Dogs are welcome to join you on all these trails on-leash.
If you’d like to take a stroll around Lake Chabot, try the East Shore Trail. This hike is 3.5 miles long, and it has an elevation gain of 236 feet. As you hike around Lake Chabot, you’ll go up hills that provide amazing views of the water. There are plenty of benches along the trail where you can relax and enjoy views of the lake. If you’d like to extend your hike, the East Shore Trail connects to the West Shore Trail, which also goes along Lake Chabot. If all this hiking makes you hungry, the East Shore Trail passes Lake Chabot Marina, where picnic tables, drinking water, and restrooms are available.
The Goldenrod Trail is another furrific trail to hike with your pup. This loop trail is four miles long with an elevation gain of 528 feet. As you hike along this trail, you’ll get great views of the Upper San Leandro Reservoir. You’ll also see tons of lovely wildflowers.
Lake Chabot Regional Park’s hours vary — while the park always opens at 6:00 AM, its closing time changes each season. Be sure to check the park’s website before you head out to see when the park is closing. Also, be aware that Lake Chabot Regional Park has a $2 fee per dog. Guide dogs and service dogs can enter the park for free.
Lake Chabot Regional Park is a fun park that’s filled with waterfront trails you and your pup will both love. Remember to bring doggy bags so you can clean up after your dog during your hike, and have a woofderful time trekking here!
While you’re walking, be sure to keep your pup away from Lake Chabot — the lake has blue-green algae, which can cause skin discomfort. It can also make your pup sick if they drink it. Also, be aware that there’s limited shade on many of Lake Chabot Regional Park’s trails. Make sure to give your pup plenty of water as you’re walking.
