Description

Legion Park is a gorgeous narrow park that offers nearly 50 acres of land along the Chicago River. One of the best ways to explore this park is to stroll along Legion Park Trails, a network of trails that offer concrete pathways from one end of the park to the next. The park itself travels through three different neighborhoods, and maintains constant views of the water and surrounding green fields.

The park itself is split into two sections by the Chicago River, making it easy to get views of the river from all angles. The best place to start along the trails is along the northern part of the east side of the park on West Peterson Avenue. The main trail is called North Shore Channel Trail and extends all the way south to the other end of the park. Off the main trail are a few smaller trails that loop around park features such as a public scenic fountain, basketball courts, a playground, open space to play in, and shaded sitting areas. The main trail loops around to the southern point of the park near West Foster Avenue, where it connects back up to the midpoint.

At the midpoint, another unnamed side trail passes over the bridge and connects to the west side of the park on the other side of the river. On this side, you and Fido can explore even more trails and go south offers a single trail that follows along the bank and passed a soccer field. Going north will take you onto a loop trail that passes through more green scenery of the park, showcasing features such as benches, another playground, and enclosed tennis courts. This loop connects back to West Paterson Avenue, where you and Fido can reach the starting point after crossing over the bridge.

There's no denying the beauty of the Legion Park Trails, with sounds of the river rushing by and gorgeous lush scenery to accompany you and fido on your walk, you'll be sure to enjoy that this network of trails has to offer.
