Medicine Bow Trail #965

If you and your pup love the outdoors, Colorado has amazing adventures for you both to enjoy! The Medicine Bow Trail (#965) is one of the pawtastic hikes this state has to offer and is waiting for you to explore! 

You will find this trail within the Rawah Wilderness area, but you need to access it via another trail. Although there are a number of trails which lead to the Medicine Bow Trail (#965), the McIntyre Trail #966 is an easy one to use. Parking for this trailhead will be on County Road 80C where you will find the Link and McIntyre Trailhead parking lot to leave your car.

Beginning on the McIntyre Trail, take this for 9.2 miles, at which point you will connect with the Medicine Bow Trail. You will find yourself at Ute Pass, where the trail heads south for 15.3 miles along the Medicine Bow Divide. Lots of panoramic views will take your breath away as you and your furry friend enjoy this outing, including those of North Park, the Laramie River Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park. You both will also be treated to spectacular views of not-too-far-off Wyoming! There are plenty of areas of shade, so using this trail is comfortable during the summer. With the average grade at about 7%, the hike will not be too strenuous for the experienced hiker-pup! This hiking trail will eventually meet up with Link Trail.

With the altitude climbing to over 11,000 feet here, it is important that you are well-prepared to handle the lower oxygen levels and quickly-changing outdoor weather. Make sure to also pack plenty of provisions to keep your puptastic dog well-hydrated and fed. A leash is required and is a good measure to make sure your furever friend is always safe!
