North Fork Trail #929

You and your puptastic friend are in for a treat when you decide to go hiking in beautiful Glen Haven, Colorado. Pack up your pup and head to the North Fork Trailhead (#929). The trailhead and parking are situated at the end of Dunraven Glade Road. There are ample spaces where you will find a place to leave your car in this graveled lot. Grab your pup’s leash, plenty of water and snacks, and clean up bags, and you are ready to go!

North Fork Trail travels for 10.3 miles through beautiful Colorado country. You will be treated to the sounds of rushing water, courtesy of the Big Thompson River, which this out-and-back trail follows for a number of miles. Once you find yourselves in the open, grassy meadows, you will see several abandoned cabins, which are fun to photograph in this scenic area. This is a great place to have a picnic lunch. Continuing on your hike, your pawtastic pup will love making a number of stream crossings and passing through the Comanche Peak Wilderness. When you eventually come to the border of Rocky Mountain National Park, you will need to turn around. Unfortunately, pups are not allowed on any trails there.

Fido will need to remain on leash throughout your hike for the safety of the wildlife and courtesy to other hikers. The water from the streams can be treated, or you can bring along bottled water to share. The trail is most easily traversed during the months of February to November, and there are vault toilets located for your convenience at the trailhead parking lot. Shade is plentiful along your hike, but insect repellant is a good idea.
