Description

Wanting to walk the dog, but hate to just walk around town, yet again? Well, you're in luck! The Old 99 Trail just outside of Redding, California offers locals and passers-by to get some much-needed outdoor time with the pup without the need to walk around downtown. The Old 99 Trail features a pawrific, easy hike for those wishing to work up a light sweat. The trail takes you alongside the abandoned Highway 99 route once used in the 1930's, which not only makes the Old 99 Trail a great way to take a walk in the woods, but to step back in time, too!

The Old 99 Trail has several trailheads. If you're not familiar with Redding, one of the trailheads begins at the bottom side of North Market Street, while the other begins at the top of the hill, closer to downtown. The hike will take you away from the concrete-laiden sidewalks of town and will lead you into the surrounding forest. There's plenty of shade for panting pups on a hot summer's day!

The trail is mainly loose terrain with forest landscape and an easy incline, but you can easily hike down to access public amenities, such as stores, restaurants, and even a supermarket, in case you forget to pack some doggie waste bags for your trip! Please keep in mind to keep the trail nice and dog waste free for fellow hikers. Keep in mind, the Old 99 Trail won't satisfy hikers looking for an all-day adventure. This relatively short hike is ideal for busy folks in need of a shorter journey. The trail also serves as a unique detour around the bustling town.

The Old 99 Trail is considered an old favorite among Redding residents and visitors. Don't forget to pack some water to stay hydrated, as none is provided. Bikers also love to make use of this alternative route, so make sure to keep your pup on a leash and beware of your surroundings at all times. Most of all, enjoy your short and sweet hike with Fido!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
