Description

Take a hike in the heart of Tulsa on the Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Trails Network. This series of marked and unmarked pathways offers a variety of options. You can take a short 0.8-mile loop over uneven terrain, walk on a paved pathway along the Arkansas River, travel on a 5.7-mile route through the western side of the park, or use one of the other trails here. The property is open year-round, and there are restrooms and an outdoor shower at the main parking lot.

The trailhead for this system is by the lot on South Elwood Avenue. From here, you can pick the Red Trail that winds south, the Blue Trail that heads to the north, or one of the other routes. Some of the paths have steep climbs. For a real challenge, take the Yellow Trail that starts north of the restrooms. When you hike here, you'll start by going west then arc up to the northern end of the wilderness area. Be prepared for rugged trail conditions out here. The newer Pink Trail ventures into the northwest quadrant of the park and features some steep climbs and scenic views.

Keep Spot on-leash when you hike together here. There's drinking water available by the trailhead. Fill up your bottles before heading out on the longer paths. Before you start your hike, RiverParks Authority recommends that you enable the GPS on your phone as a precaution. Have waste collection bags to remove your pup's waste.

Enjoy exploring the Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Trails Network. These pathways wind through the 300+ acre park that's near downtown Tulsa. With the Arkansas River to your west and a canopy of redbud, hickory, and oak trees, you can forget that you're in the city for a little while. Select a route with fun features like petroglyphs, a rock garden, a landslide area, and a moonscape.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
