The Banter Bulldogge is a designer breed with a great temperament, obedient and easy to train. A cross between a purebred Boxer and various Bulldog breeds, this medium to large, solid dog is playful and loving, loyal and quite protective. They get along well with children, and are happy to play a few rough and tumble games. They can adapt to apartment living as long as it includes a  long daily walk. The Banter Bulldogge is best suited in a home with a secure yard to play and patrol. Use positive training methods and be consistent with your commands. Ensure that the training is fun and don't make each session too long. You want to keep them keen to learn. Use praise and rewards to encourage good behavior. They are alert and watchful, and they are good watchdogs, warning you of any strangers lurking around. This dog is fun for the family, always ready to play, eager to please and a delight to own.

Banter Bulldogge Breed History

The Banter Bulldogge is the result of the dedication of Todd Tripp of Southeast Ohio to recreate the Brabanter Bullenbeisser of 1700's fame. Known also as the Brabant in central Belgium, this dog was the family and working dog favorite in that era up to the early 1800's. Tripp was very selective in the dogs he chose to be the foundation for his new breed. Most were Boxers and a variety of working Bulldog breeds such as the AmStaff and the American Bulldog. The high percentage of the Boxer and his precise selective process when choosing dogs for the breed allowed him to reach his final goal. An infusion of the English type of Bulldogge introduced more white color to the breed. The Banter Bulldogge got their name because of their good-natured, witty and happy temperament, so the Banter was used to imply these attributes within the dog. The name also acknowledges the Brabanter Bullenbeisser which is the Old Belgium dogs of the 1700's whom inspired Todd Tripp to begin his crusade to recreate the older type of Bulldog. For a dog that is both solid and wary of strangers, they are remarkably gentle and kind with their family. They are loyal and protective but not aggressive. This dog has a happy outlook on life, and loves to be included in all family activities. They come in a range of colors, ranging from fawn through to black, red and brindle and some but not all, have that attractive black mask.

Banter Bulldogge Breed Appearance

The Banter Bulldogge is muscular and solid in build, weighing up to eighty-five pounds. They have a powerful appearance with their boxy shaped head with a pronounced stop separating the muzzle and the skull. The jaws are strong and have a scissors or even bite with the teeth. Combine this with rounded intense eyes that don't miss a trick and you will find yourself facing an impressive dog. The body on the Banter Bulldogge is muscular, with a thick strong neck leading to a compact body structure, deep chest, and strong muscular legs well placed under the dog. Their ears are short and rounded, while the tail is set high and is long and whip-like. The color can vary from fawn, red, brindle and black, with all colors having a varying amount of white - usually up to about 30% of their coloration. Some dogs have the black mask, but all have the characteristic wrinkled brow that gives them a look of heavy concentration. Thankfully, their nature is mellow and they are affectionate dogs.

Banter Bulldogge Breed Maintenance

Care and grooming for the Banter Bulldogge are easy, a quick comb or brushing of the coat to remove any shed hairs and you are pretty much done. Bathing is not necessary on a regular basis, just when they get a bit stinky. Ensure you use a specially formulated soap for dogs to prevent removing all the natural oils. Alternately, you can give them a rub down with a damp cloth which will take care of all but the worst smells or dirt. Check their ears and keep them clean, trim their toenails carefully (don't clip too close or you will hurt your dog), and get your dog used to having their teeth brushed regularly - this is easiest to do when they are puppies. An average shedder, the Banter Bulldogge has a smooth short coat that is easy to keep clean, allows for simple detection of parasites, and always seems to look well dressed.

Banter Bulldogge Temperament

Easy to train and very obedient, the Banter Bulldogge has a willingness to please their owner. While they look solid and tough, they have a genuine happy nature although they will warn you of strangers lurking around and will protect their family members if the occasion arises. They love to play with other dogs and can be a bit rough and boisterous, but never vindictive. Socialised well, they will get along well with most creatures, but can sometimes chase smaller creatures. They need an owner who is the pack leader, someone they respect and who has a natural authority, yet is calm and confident. They adapt well to most living situations, even an apartment, although they will need at least a daily walk to burn off a bit of energy. They make ideal companions for most people as they are so willing to please and bond strongly with their family. Solid and reliable, they are loyal and have unbounded affection to offer the lucky owner.

Banter Bulldogge Activity Requirements

The Banter Bulldogge requires a good workout each day as well as a brisk daily walk. They make a good jogging companion, love hiking, enjoy water fun, and adore games with the children. They are such a friendly loving dog within the family group that it is hard to imagine life without them! Inside the home, they are calmer, but are not adverse to jumping on the beds with the kids, or playing a game of chase which you will have to interfere and calm everyone down before the house gets destroyed! Although they look tough and almost have that 'bully' look to them, they are really a marshmallow when it comes to cuddles and affection. This dog is easy to train as they are so willing to please their owner. Use kind methods and lots of praise and they will do all they can to please you.
