Mountain Bulldog

The Mountain Bulldog is a new hybrid dog breed that is currently recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club,  Designer Breed Registry, Designer Dogs Kennel Club and  Dog Registry of America. The Mountain Bulldog stems from the English Bulldog and the Bernese Mountain Dog. The English Bulldog is considered an ancient breed that can be traced back over 300 years ago to where they were often used to attack bulls in rings. During the 1500s to 1600s, breeds such as the Asian Mastiff were imported into England and were bred with the Bulldog to create what we know today as the English Bulldog. Also called the British Bulldog, this breed was registered with the American Kennel Club in the Non-Sporting Group as simply the Bulldog, in 1886. The Bernese Mountain dog is a large, versatile breed that can be traced back to Switzerland. The breed is thought to have been created during the 18th to 19th centuries where they often worked on farms by partaking in jobs such as cart pulling, drafting, herding cattle and guarding cattle. Today, the breed has retired from its hard jobs on the farms. The modern-day Bernese often is mainly seen as a companion dog but can still be seen at work as search and rescue dogs, guarding dogs and watchdogs. 1937 is the year this breed joined the roster of the American Kennel Club.
