The Pushon is an adorable little dog who combines the best characterstics from the Pug dog with the soft fluffiness of the Bichon Frise. While their size may be small, they are big in personality. They love to be around people, and are the ideal house dog, adapting to apartment living with ease. These are dogs that need to be with their family, they are not an outside dog. The Pushon loves attention so much they are prepared to play or do tricks to get it. Your lap will be theirs so be warned, they are loving and affectionate and want that physical contact. These little balls of fluff can vocalise loudly when strangers appear, but can be trained to only bark once as a warning. Loving and adorable, these ready to please dogs still need a firm hand to prevent small dog syndrome where they think they are the boss. Like many small dogs that are spoilt, they can become bossy, naughty and demanding. A true family friend, the little Pushon is a character that cannot be ignored.

Pushon Breed History

The Pushon is a rare hybrid dog with little data about their beginnings, but looking at the parent dog history, we can see what they have in common. The Pug dog is an ancient breed that originated before 400 BC in Asia, where they were pets of the Tibetan monasteries. The Pug became popular in royal households during the 19th Century, and made its way to Japan and Europe where it became the pet of Royalty, and even became the official dog of the House of Orange in Holland. Pugs were owned by Prince William ll and one dog was reported to have saved his life in 1572 after the dog warned him of the approaching Spaniards. In France, Josephine - wife of Napoleon - owned a Pug and used her pet to send secret messages to her husband when she was in prison by hiding notes under its collar. When the British took over the Chinese Imperial Palace in 1860 they discovered several Pug dogs and took them back to England, where the rest is history as they say. The American Kennel Club accepted the Pug dog in 1885. The Bichon Frise has its origins dating back to the 13th Century. The breed is a descendant of the Barbet Water Spaniel and the Poodle. Spanish Sailors traded the little dog as they journeyed around the world, as they were popular ship companions. The Bichon became a favourite in 16th Century French royal courts because of its attractive appearance and willingness to please. This trait was utilised in the 19th Century when it worked as an organ grinder's dog, and also as a circus performer. Their ability to learn new tricks and their brave social nature made it a natural actor. Today this little dog is a companion and show dog, often winning hearts as it performs its tricks. The soft white fur and adorable eyes have seen it remain a popular dog. The Bichon Frise was first recognised in 1972 by the American Kennel Club.

Pushon Breed Appearance

The Pushon is undeniably a cute little dog who can melt your heart with a single look. Small but well proportioned, they can be a little sturdy like the Pug, or more streamlined like the Bichon Frise. Their bodies are longer than they are high, with short legs that are quite strong yet slender. Tiny rounded paws means they can turn on a dime and are fast movers. Their faces are rounded in shape, they often have a medium size muzzle and their eyes are round, dark in color and shine with anticipation. The ears are wideset and triangular shaped that flop over while being held out from and framing the head somewhat. The Pushon's tail can be straight or curled up over its back . Attractive in appearance and with genuine cuteness appeal, the Pushon pup is hard to ignore, and once in your home they are forever in your heart.

Pushon Breed Maintenance

The Pushon maintenance requirements depend a lot on how their genetics have gifted them - some inherit the short coat of the Pug dog or the soft long fluffy coat of the Bichon Frise. The short coat requires minimum maintenance, while the long fluffy coat requires daily brushing and the occasional trim to keep it at its best. The Pushon will enjoy grooming time; any sort of attention is welcome by them, even if it is only to brush their teeth. While they don't require frequent bathing, they will enjoy the pampering of a warm bath, gentle dog soap and shampoo, and the drying off process. Remember to dry carefully in any folds or wrinkles on the skin. Check the eyes and ears on a regular basis to ensure they are healthy. Then a quick clip of the nails may be required to finish the grooming session. Of course your Pushon will expect plenty of praise and perhaps a small treat for being so well behaved.

Pushon Temperament

The Pushon can be a bit of a clown, entertaining his family or just showing off in general. They love attention and will perform to get it. These are true companion dogs, they love people and expect people to love them. Sweet in temperament, they are an ideal family pet, kind with children as well as other pets. They often form strong bonds with other animals that they grow up with, such as a cat or even a rabbit. They are lively and nosy, they want to know what everyone is up to so that they can assist. You will not be lonely with a Pushon around. They adapt well to small houses or apartments, but can do equally as well in a country setting, as long as they live inside. They are not an outdoor type dog. If your Pushon dog inherits the pushed in face and muzzle of the Pug dog, then they will suffer from high temperatures, so ensure they have a cool bolt hole in the house where they can retreat to during a heatwave. These brave little dogs will warn you when strangers are around, and will bark to warn you as they defend your turf. The Pushon pooch loves praise and will respond well to kind words and small treats when asked to learn a new trick. Patience and calmness plus affection is all that is needed to keep this little cutie behaving himself.

Pushon Activity Requirements

The Pushon is an active little dog who is always ready for a game or a walk. They love to play with their toys, often destroying them in the process. These lively dogs are ideal playmates for children, they have a lovely nature and have plenty of energy for play. While they will get most of their exercise by just being a busy body around the house, they will still need a daily walk for exercise and for socialising purposes. They will love time out in the dog park, and they are not shy - they will butt into larger dog games without hesitation. They can be affected by hot weather, especially if they have inherited the pushed in face of the Pug dog, so take them out during the cooler time of the day. These ready to please little dogs respond well to training, and happily learn new tricks to show off. When they tire, they will land in your lap, ready for smooches and cuddles.

Our Amelia, is a white pushon, mainly pug in appearance. She is a ball of energy, always wanting to play!!! Loves her walks however can get a little lazy and will tug back home when she decides she’s finished haha! She is always up for a cuddle from you and will follow you around when ‘food’ is mentioned. Couldn’t imagine our lives without her, she’s the best.

My Pushon is full of energy! We love him, although sometimes we question where he gets all of his energy from haha. He goes on atleast an hour long walk each day, and comes home and plays and still has energy. He’s adorable, friendly, and loves cuddles, (sometimes) haha. Ralph’s favourite thing to do is to sing it’s so funny, as soon a song comes on he sings it. We had ralph just 4 days after my other dog had died so it was all a very quick experience and it was hard to connect with him if that makes sense as we were all heart broken over the loss of another dog, but Ralph has filled our life’s with so much joy, and love. He knows how to get attention and he always wants it. He wants belly rubs, scratches and for us to massage him for him to fall asleep lol! If your looking to get a pushon, you need to know that they are a ball of energy each and everyday. But I wouldn’t have it any other way, you need to be able to have a lot of “free” time or “home” time as our dog loves to be around us, and even if we leave the house for 2 minutes he sits and waits and then gets excited when we come back. With saying this, don’t be frightened that you wouldn’t be able to leave the house with out them. The first couple of weeks, he came everywhere that he could. But then we had to get him into routine aswel as our selfs as it wouldn’t be fair on us or him for him to be dragged out everywhere. We can leave him whilst children in school and I’m in work, and he’s fine. He does all the tricks, he walks just on two feet like us humans it’s so funny. He creeps to get his teddy whenyou tell him to creep, and he does sit, paw and fetch, roll over, play dead. They are really intelligent dogs. Trust me haha. If he wants water or more food (he loves food) he brings his bowl from the kitchen where his bowls are, to upstairs or where ever we are in the house and puts the bowl onto your lap and does a noise like a whine almost to tell you what he wants. Getting one of these dogs will bring so much joy into your life with all of the funny and cute things they do. But you need to be prepared for it, the energy out bursts at 11 o’clock at night lol! Just making sure they know who’s the boss, as he sometimes thinks he is haha. He lays at the bottom of my bed when he’s sleeping, with his own pillow, and puts his head on it like he’s a human lol! He is one year old today! So a lot has been experienced with him already! It’s been the best year with him ❤️

Molly is a gorgeous dog. We got her when she was only a puppy in 2008 and she has grown up around another dog and a cat, and we recently just got another cat whom she loves. She is a bit shy around people that she doesn't know, however when she gets to know you, she will never leave your side. She doesn't like being left alone. She is great at high fiving and she picks up tricks easily. She is nearly 12 but that doesn't stop her from getting around incredibly well. She loves to sleep right next to you and she will always give you a hug when you need it. Google "molly the pushon" and her picture is the first to come up.
