Wire Fox Terrier
A comparatively more obscure breed than even most other designer dogs, the Wire Foxy Russell is a new breed of dog created from mixing a Wire Fox Terrier with a Jack Russell terrier. Though not much in known about the Wire Foxy Russell other than its recent emergence onto the dogie scene, much can be inferred about this new breed of dog based on the extensive amounts of knowledge available concerning both of its parents; the Jack Russell Terrier and Wire Fox Terrier. Designer breeds are generally bred to try and capture the best qualities of two well known, tried and true breeds and the Wire Foxy Russell is no different. Hunting is in this breed's DNA, as well as intelligence and loyalty. These traits are just only a small sampling from a sea of desirable traits that are owed to the Wire Foxy Russell's unique heritage.

Wire Foxy Russell Breed History

Wire Foxy Terriers are designer breeds that come from mixing Wire Fox Terriers with Jack Russell Terriers. The Wire Foxy Terrier's status as a hybrid dog has its pros and cons; the bad news is that Wire Foxy Terriers are not well known at all, as even the American Kennel Club and the English Kennel Club have yet to acknowledge this fledgling breed in either of their registries. The good news, however, is that both of the Wire Foxy Terrier's parents are world renowned breeds and learning about both the Wire Fox Terrier and the Jack Russell Terrier will offer a lot of insight into the potential mindset, mannerisms,  needs, and capabilities of the Wire Foxy Terrier. The mustache laden Wire Fox Terrier is a dog known for its loyalty and adept abilities as a hunter of vermin and foxes. Wire Fox Terriers are thought to have originated from the 19th century, with its ancestors hailing from Wales, Derbyshire, and Durham. Wire Fox Terriers were sought after due to their great hunting skills, but they also were lauded for their undying loyalty; the story goes that when Edward VII passed away, his Wire Fox Terrier named Caesar participated in his owner's funeral procession, so intense was the dog's loyalty to his master. Such fealty will have likely manifested in the Wire Foxy Russell, as well as possibility of the  Wire Fox Terrier's prey drive causing the Wire Foxy Terrier to give chase to smaller creatures and be very energetic on the whole. The Jack Russell Terrier, on the other hand,  derives his name from Reverend John Russell, a man who bred many Terriers to assist in hunts. With two experienced hunters as parents, the Wire Foxy Russell will likely be an energetic and loyal dog with the capacity to be a great companion if properly trained.

Wire Foxy Russell Breed Appearance

The Wire Foxy Terrier will have a combination of physical traits that are borrowed from both of its parents, and may visually vary immensely  depending on which of its two parents it'll favor more prominently. The Wire Foxy Terrier may have a more slender and spindly appearance akin to the Wire Fox Terrier's or it have a shorter coat and more muscular frame like the Jack Russell Terrier. It's eye and coat colors will also be pooled from all of the variations both of its parents offer, genetically speaking, so Wire Foxy Russells may have splashes of black, white, or sliver in their coats. Their coats will likely be more wire in texture but some may have straighter hair than others; with designer breeds, many of their physical traits can vary greatly on an individual basis. Both of the Wire Foxy Russell's parents have brown eyes and black noses however, so these traits will be consistent in their offspring.

Wire Foxy Russell Breed Maintenance

The Wire Foxy Russell might inherit the hypoallergenic qualities of the Wire Fox Terrier, so this breed may be more compatible with individuals who typically have allergic reactions to dogs. The Wire Foxy Terrier's needs will fall in line with either the Wire Fox Terrier's or the Jack Russell's, so be sure to be equally ready for either possibility. If the Wire Foxy Terrier shares more similarities with it's first parent, the Wire Foxy Terrier, then expect to groom your designer dog on a weekly basis with a pin brush, slicker brush, and comb. The Jack Russell is not hypoallergenic, however it doesn't shed excessively so that can be a benefit in its own right. Weekly grooming sessions will cover any Wire Foxy Terrier, regardless on which parent it borrows more of its traits from, but be certain to have access to a professional dog groomer in order to take care of the Wire Foxy Terrier's nails.

Wire Foxy Russell Temperament

It can't be understated that both of the Wire Foxy Russell's parents were hunters. Very, very keen hunters at that. The Wire Fox Terrier in particular has a tendency to try and assert itself as the leader of the pack if it senses weakness or hesitation in the owner, while the Jack Russell Terrier is known to become anxious and wantonly destructive when left alone for long periods of anxiety-riddled time. These two aforementioned breeds are also known for being remarkably clever and are very receptive to training, counter balancing their more hectic traits in a sense. All of this means that the Wire Foxy Russell may be a dog whose temperament may be too poignant for unseasoned dog owners. The Wire Foxy Russell seems to have the makings of an intensely loyal and intelligent companion, but it's potentially strong personality may overwhelm unprepared owners.

Wire Foxy Russell Activity Requirements

The Wire Foxy Terrier is going to need adequate time and space to kick out all of the pent up energy accrued from its distinct parentage. The Wire Foxy Russell is likely going to need about 45 minutes of exercise time a day to get the job done. These designer breeds are energetic by nature, so some may need more or less time dependent on the size of the individual dog. A Wire Foxy Russell whose unable to get their much needed playtime will likely become restless and even more unwieldy in the long rung, so be sure that you have regular access to a park with enough space for the Wire Foxy Russell to enervate itself. These breeds are smart and their Jack Russell parents are what dog enthusiast refer to as "Earthdogs" so don't be afraid to spice up your Wire Foxy Russell's workout with various Earthdog trials and exercises.

Best friend
I had Kitty from when I was 11 to nearly 26 years old. When she was young she was very energetic, friendly, protective, and loyal. As she aged (13) her temperament changed to very grumpy and had a lot tolerance for being pestered by children. She growled, I would instantly remove her from the room. She was an old woman dog then and needed to be left alone. But overall I miss Kitty. Her name is Kitty cause everyone asked me if I was sure she was an actual dog and I wasn't fooled into getting a cat. When she had her snobby moments I would call her Miss Kitty. People always gave me strange looked when I would call her. She always came when called. She was the perfect best friend.

Question

Where can I learn to groom my dog? She goes to a groomer but I would like to be active in her grooming to build trust in between grooming visits. She is a rescue and of course I don't want to ever have her frightened. Thank you. Jennifer
